My Dad and I were kayaking one morning around 10 years ago and this was the scene at our backs at one point. I would have missed it if he hadn't told me to look behind us. Although we saw the scene around 11 a.m., I wanted to set the painting in early morning when the fog is lifting off the water and golden light is starting to break through the shadows.
